Zambia Walking Safaris
Day 1 Friday:
Board your evening transatlantic flight. Day 2 Saturday: Arrive in Johannesburg and transfer to the D'Orio Grand Hotel.
Day 3 Sunday: Return to the airport for
your morning flight to Lusaka. Then connecting to Lunga Air charter flight to North Kafue.
There you will be met and transferred to Lunga Cabins. Accommodations for a maximum of
twelve guests. There are six luxury-thatched cabins with en suite shower and flush toilet.
Activities include game drives and walks, led by experienced guides and armed scouts.
Other activities include sundowner cruises on the Lunga River, canoe trails down the river
and fishing with local guides.
Day 4 Monday: Explore National Park where
the big five are plentiful. Herds of buffalo, often number in the hundreds. Elephants are
readily seen and there are numerous lion, leopard and cheetah. There are also black
rhinos, waterbuck, impala, kudu, roan, sable, eland and other antelope roam in large
numbers. Also zebra and smaller predators such as jackal and hyena. The bird life is
excellent with the riverbanks teeming with wild foul and other water birds.
Day 5 Tuesday: Continue game viewing.
Day 6 Wednesday: Transfer to Busanga
Camp, a mobile facility used to camp out on the plains bordering the Busanga Swamps. It is
a unique Eco-system offering a wide diversity of plains game and bird life. Sleeping a
maximum of six in Safari Dome tents, it affords flexibility with comfort.
Day 7 Thursday:
Explore the Busanga Plain. A vast area of rolling floodplain fed by the Lufupa river
system. It recedes in the dry season, stranding large herds of hippo in the shallow pools.
This flat expanse of grassland is sprinkled with termite mounds, fig trees and palms
(which shelter the predators that stalk the floodplains. This area is one of the richest
wildlife habitats in Zambia. Blue wildebeest, roan antelope, hartebeest, tsessebe,
buffalo, zebra, reedbuck, oribi, puku, impala and thousands of lichwe graze on the plain.
Another type of unusual antelope is found here. It is the rare sitatunga. The plain is the
hunting ground of the big cats and most notably the cheetah. Lion are attracted by the
wealth of plains game. Day 8 Friday:
Continue exploring the Busanga Plain.
Day 9 Saturday: Morning flight to
Victoria Falls and transfer service to the Makasa Sun Hotel or similar hotel. Take an
afternoon tour of Victoria Falls with guide and evening experience of a traditional
African dance performance.
Day 10 Sunday: Morning game drive in a
4X4 vehicle into the Zambezi National Park. It is home of elephant buffalo, hippo and much
more. The drive includes tea/coffee, beer, wine and cool drinks. Return to your hotel in
time for lunch. Then visit the Craft Village. Evening Sundowner cruise in a large boat. It
offers the best possible view of the sun setting over the Zambezi River.
Day 11 Monday: Return transfer to the
airport for your flight to Johannesburg connecting to New York.
Day 12 Tuesday: Arrive in New York in the
morning. |
