Gabon and the Last Eden: Langoue Bai

Day 1 ­ Sunday:  Depart New York in the evening on Air France.

Day 2 ­ Monday:  Arrive Paris late morning. Time to explore the city before connecting to your late evening departure. Day rooms can be arranged.

Day 3 ­ Tuesday:   Arrive Libreville in the early morning. You will be met and transferred to the Tropican Hotel for overnight.

Day 4 ­ Wednesday:  Transfer to the train station for your 9:30pm departure to the Ivindo Station. Arrive at 4:00am when not late.

Day 5 ­ Thursday:  A staff member waits for visitors and takes you for a small rest and breakfast in an air-conditioned place near the train station. At day light, a drive of 3 hours leads to the beginning of the trek. A steep hill has to be climbed which takes 1/2 hour, then the way is easier until you reach the reseach camp, reached in 3 hours. Everyone has to carry their bag which is alright for anybody well fitted, especially following the pack-list guideline that will be recommended. The walk usually gives an opportunity to see birds and monkeys, sometimes elephant and buffalo. In the afternoon, rest or walk around the camp discovering this untouched and beautiful primary rain forest.

Day 6 - Friday:  Early morning walk of 1 hour to reach the bai. Hides on platfroms allow you to observe what is happening. The show can start immediately or one can sit quietly some hours before mammals come. But everyday, something happens. Daily presence of elephan is 90% and gorilla 60% year round. The bai is rather quiet from mid August to October. From November to March, solitaire gorilla visit the place and gamilies with juveniles from April til mid August.

Day 7 ­ Saturday: Full day visiting the bai.

Day 8 ­ Sunday:  Full day visiting the bai.

Day 9 ­ Monday:  Full day visiting the bai.

Day 10 ­ Tuesday: A last visit to the bai and after lunch proceed back to the trian station. Have dinner at the house and wait for the night train which leaves Ivindo at 1:00 for Libreville.

Day 11 ­ Wednesday: Arrive Libreville and transfer to the Tropicana Hotel for overnight.

Day 12 ­ Thursday: Free day. Late transfer to the airport for your Air France return flight.

Day 13 ­ Friday: Arrive New York/Kennedy Airport via Paris in the late afternoon.
